WANG A/AC DESTRUCTION NEWS

President Stanley's Lie Now Visible

Only two stories high and new dorms are higher than Wang Center wall. Stanley said 6 story dorms would be the same height as the shortest light tower, visible on the left. At two stories they are almost there, with four more to go.
On this vast campus where 6-story dorms could be built in many empty spaces, just as the Hilton was built in 2013, or built more efficiently where infrastructure existed (high steam pipes), instead, an all-White building committee, never even thinking of the consequences, chose directly behind Wang AAC simply because it was two minutes walking distance closer to the academic mall than by LaValle, where piping was and could have provided the stadium with an eating facility, similar to the dorms at UT at Austin.

Rather than spend money to have new plans drawn, or even have the common courtesy to speak to those opposed, SBU's imperial President Stanley let construction proceed. Having already applied for the Penn State presidency (they didn't want him) and Cornell (they didn't want him either), he has no long term interest in SBU. His goal was to be gone before the dorms were complete, before proof of the lie about the dorms height vs. the Wang Center was obvious for all to see.

Where once the pagoda tower stood alone against the sky, making SBU the only SUNY campus with such an iconic structure it can be recognized just by that icon, now the bright stadium lights can be seen. Soon they will be replaced with 6-story dorm lights coming half-way up the tower's height.

Already rated one of the ugliest campuses in the US, with red brick buildings designed by prison architects Kelly & Gruzen and continued by a President and former Facilities VP who both lacked aesthetic vision (comparable to the new SBU logo), the one building that gave SBU character will be aesthetically destroyed. Not only its pagoda tower but the beauty and serenity of its koi pond garden and the use of its special theatre windows will be lost - forever.

Fifty years ago, on Sept 8, 1965, Filipino farm workers in Delano, California led the first labor strike against grape growers. It eventually became a nationwide boycott and led the start of the UFW - United Farm Workers.
